IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance has appointed Tatsuya Fujimoto as its new MD & CEO. Fujimoto will lead the insurer as it looks to strengthen its growth and business strategy in India.

IFFCO-TOKIO: IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance Company Limited on Wednesday announced the appointment of Tatsuya Fujimoto as its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective immediately. The change of guard sees Fujimoto, who was serving as Director-Operations at the company, step up to the top role, succeeding Subrata Mondal, who had led IFFCO-TOKIO as MD & CEO since September 9, 2024. The appointment was confirmed by the company in an official statement, marking the latest leadership transition at one of India’s largest general insurance joint ventures between a domestic cooperative major and a global Japanese insurance group.

IFFCO-TOKIO: Who is Tatsuya Fujimoto

Fujimoto brings 28 years of experience within the Tokio Marine Group to his new role. Of these, 18 years were spent in Japan, where he worked across marketing and corporate planning functions and served as Executive Secretary to the Group CEO. The remaining decade was spent across international assignments, including postings in the United States, Malaysia, and India. Over the course of his career, he has held responsibilities spanning underwriting, business transformation, customer analytics, and customer experience strategy, with his stated areas of expertise covering strategic planning, operational efficiency, data-driven decision-making, and branding.

He is an alumnus of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Before his most recent India assignments, Fujimoto served as Deputy CEO of the First Insurance Company of Hawaii, and has also held positions at Tokio Marine America and Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Berhad, reflecting a career built substantially around the group’s international operations.

IFFCO-TOKIO: His Path Within IFFCO-TOKIO

Fujimoto’s rise within IFFCO-TOKIO followed a defined sequence of roles. According to a February 2025 executive personnel notification from Tokio Marine Holdings, he was serving as Senior Executive Director & Chief Risk Officer at IFFCO-TOKIO as of that filing, a position the company’s own statement confirms he held from November 2024 to June 2025. He subsequently moved into the role of Director-Operations, the position he held immediately before this appointment as MD & CEO.

IFFCO-TOKIO: In His Own Words

Commenting on his appointment, Fujimoto said he was “deeply honoured to step into the role of Managing Director and CEO” and looked forward to “leading our exceptional team into its next chapter of growth.” He added that he was proud of the company’s legacy and intended to draw on the strengths of both promoter groups — IFFCO’s brand and distribution network, and Tokio Marine’s risk management expertise — to drive further innovation for the company’s clients, intermediaries, and stakeholders.

He described his 28-year journey with Tokio Marine Group as having instilled in him a commitment to the group’s core values and to delivering long-term value for customers, noting that he was “eager to guide IFFCO-TOKIO GIC through this next phase” of a rapidly evolving insurance landscape in India and beyond.

IFFCO-TOKIO: The Company He Now Leads

IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance Company Limited is a 51:49 joint venture between the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) and Japan’s Tokio Marine Group, combining IFFCO’s cooperative-sector reach with Tokio Marine’s global insurance expertise. The company is headquartered at IFFCO Tower, Sector 29, Gurugram, and offers a broad suite of general insurance products spanning motor, health, travel, home, and commercial lines, with a stated focus on cashless servicing through an extensive network of hospitals and garages. The company had previously reported crossing ₹10,000 crore in Gross Written Premium for the financial year 2022-23.

IFFCO-TOKIO: Leadership Continuity and the Outgoing MD & CEO

Fujimoto’s appointment comes after a two-year tenure for Mondal, who was appointed MD & CEO on September 9, 2024. Mondal had been associated with IFFCO-TOKIO since 2001 and brought over 36 years of experience in the insurance industry to the role, having most recently served as the company’s Chief Underwriter, where he oversaw underwriting across property, engineering, marine, liability, credit, health, and other business lines. An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur with a B.Tech (Hons.) in Electrical Engineering, Mondal’s earlier career included stints in corporate marketing for the Delhi NCR and Northern regions, as well as a tenure at National Insurance Company Limited.

The transition places IFFCO-TOKIO’s leadership in the hands of an executive with deep Tokio Marine Group grounding across markets, following a period under an MD & CEO whose career was built almost entirely within the joint venture itself.
